Forgiveness is predicated upon one false notion. And that is the perpetrator could have done otherwise not to hurt (the victim). That false notion when let go, will allow the (real) victim to naturally forgive. This is not easy. And people who suffer (and can't get to the state of forgiving) find it hard to digest. But humans are only barely better than wild animals. It's hard to be angry with a wild animal that caused harm compared to humans. But meditation on whether the causal chain of events that conspired to get the perpetrator to that point of causing harm cannot be ignored.
